BRICK — A township man dragged an Ocean County police officer after he sped off during a traffic stop Monday night, police said.

John Carter, 34, was pulled over by Officer Ryan Talty and Sgt. Erik Olsen on Burnt Tavern Road around 10 p.m. The officers discovered he had two outstanding warrants from the township Municipal Court. Carter refused to get out of his BMW 7401 and locked the driver side door, they said.

When Olsen reached into the open window to try and pull the door handle and open the door, police said Carter sped off, dragging Olsen about 50 feet before he freed himself as Carter kept going.

Olsen's arm was injured in the incident but declined medical treatment.

Carter faces charges of resisting arrest, aggravated assault and reckless driving. Bail was set at $75,000.

Police ask anyone with information about Carter to contact them at 732-262-1100.
