When we think of movies, we immediately look to Hollywood.  But we know better.  Movies are being made everywhere.  In fact, the Jersy Shore is a popular backdrop to the movie industry.

One of my favorite things to do is watch a good movie.  Nothing beats getting a good seat at your local movie theater for the complete experience.  And if you choose one of those theaters that serve food and alcohol, BONUS!

I used to be a popcorn guy, but now I try to sneak in a few boxes of candy I purchased from the dollar store.  Don’t tell anyone.  (Come on, you do too)

The pandemic put that movie theater experience on hold for months.  Movie production was also put on hold causing this past year's Academy Awards to be delayed and altered.    It’s only just been recent that the cinemas open their doors again.  Thank goodness!

Not to say, we all didn’t watch our favorites.  We just did it at home.  The industry adapted and allowed those releases to also be made available via streaming services.  And they still are.  The Many Saints of Newark which debuts on October 1, is one of the many new releases available in theaters and a limited run, on HBO Max.

Oh, and then there’s all the binge-watching we STILL continue to do!

It’s a welcoming sign to see the Fall 2021 New Jersey Film Festival is happening.  Celebrating its 40th anniversary the event is taking place on a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule through October 10, 2021.

Screenings are being presented both live at Rutgers University’s Voorhees Hall and online via an on-demand service.  Attendees of the live screenings are required to wear protective face coverings.  On-demand screenings will be available for 24 hours on their respective show time date.

Tickets are $15 per program.  You can also purchase a Festival All-Access Pass for $100.

According to their website, special access to Filmmaker Introductions and Q & A Sessions for many of the films is included with your purchased ticket.

If you enjoy independent films, this is right up your alley.  Here is a list of showings.

Going to the movies is an age-old tradition dating back to when they were silent.  Yeah, we all have our own big-screen smart TVs and our surround sound systems to enjoy watching in the comforts of our homes.

Attending a movie theater is magical.  The sights, the sounds the smells, and now the comfort.  I also love seeing our communities schedule outdoor movie showings.   Even better, the nostalgia of drive-in theaters is making a comeback.

So get off the couch and join like-minded fans of that comedy, or horror flick, or even rom-com.  It's part of the experience.

Think about it, when was the last time you went to the movies by yourself?

While you ponder that question...

LOOK: The most famous actress born the same year as you

Many of the actresses in this story not only made a name for themselves through their collection of iconic performances, but also through the selfless, philanthropic nature with which many of them approached their stardom. In an age of flipping the script on societal norms, many of these actresses are using their voices and platforms to be advocates for those who are otherwise unheard.
