New “Neighbors” Take Over Toms River
The newest faces on the streets of Toms River aren't very talkative - but they're not standoffish, they're statues!
20 life-size sculptures of people doing everyday things will be on display downtown through the end of the summer, featuring everything from two businessmen sharing a newspaper to a policeman writing a ticket. And they're so lifelike, you'll take a second look!
"I thought it was a real old lady carrying packages!" said one township resident.
Marshall Kern with the Toms River Business Improvement District hopes the exhibit by artist J. Seward Johnson will spark more than just stares.
"I think it's little steps that get you to the end of the journey, and I think this is one step that creates some excitement," Kern said. "And at the end of the day, I hope it gets people to say, 'Toms River is the place to be.'"
Check out the statues on your own using this map, or mark your calendar for a guided walking tour with local artist Mark Retacco on June 3, 2015.
