Forecasters predict that a shift in the polar vortex will likely bring a mix of snow, ice, rain, and bitterly cold temperatures to New Jersey in the coming weeks. The initial round of winter weather could arrive as soon as this weekend.

According to Patch,  "The outbreak this week will be the first of probably three such rounds with it. Another cold blast is likely next week and a third the week after that. The waves of Arctic air will lead to significant surges in energy demands."
