New Jersey’s Greatest Sandwich You Must Try Once
As you know, a sandwich is basically food placed between slices of bread, and it got its name in the 1700s from a man called the Earl of Sandwich. He liked eating this way because it was easy and not messy. The idea caught on, and over time, sandwiches became a simple, popular meal enjoyed everywhere.
If you read my food articles you know I really love liverwurst and onion on rye bread with some good mustard and a classic deli pickle. My back-up sandwich would be a ham and cheese with lettuce and tomato on rye sith a good mustard.
According to Lovefood, "Whether you call it a Taylor ham sandwich or a pork roll, there's no denying that this hearty breakfast treat is one of the defining foods of New Jersey. Locals will all have their favorite place to grab one, but Chatham institution Pascarella Brothers is frequently named as the top spot. Fans praise the enormous size and quality of the sandwich, which features layers of crispy fried Taylor ham, gooey egg, and melty American cheese, all stuffed inside a fresh hard roll."
For the record, coming from Ocean County I refer to the sandwich as "pork roll". As we all know its true name is "pork roll" not "Taylor Ham" lol.
All kidding aside, whatever you call it, it is a delicious sandwich. I was recently at a Jersey Wedding and at the end of the night everyone got a pork roll sandwich with egg and cheese on a roll as a parting gift along with wedding cake, a delicious midnight snack for all.
