Most New Jersey residents might expect hypertension levels to be high in the Garden State, but are they?

A study reported at Statista looked at hypertension levels across America for 2023, and the results are in for New Jersey.

The Level Of Hypertension In New Jersey

You might be surprised that, even though we see stress wherever we turn in the Garden State, our hypertension levels are relatively average.

This is the definition of hypertension, according to Merriam-Webster,

: abnormally high blood pressure and especially arterial blood pressure

: the systemic condition accompanying high blood pressure
So, we're talking about high blood pressure, and with all the rushing around, traffic, congestion, financial pressure, and work pressure in New Jersey, you'd think we're sitting at the top of the list.

The statistics, however, don't back that up. In 2023, the share of adults with hypertension in New Jersey was 34.4%.

That may seem like a high number, but it only places us at #25 on the list of states with the highest percentage of people with hypertension.

By comparison, the state with the highest level is Mississippi, and they come in at a whopping 46.8%.

The state with the best news in this study was Colorado. Only 27.5% of residents there have hypertension.

Six states in America report hypertension in more than 40% of their residents.
