The former has been laid out, the ladder is up to you.
There are multiple parts to an election ballot in a given year -- list of any federal races, list of state races, list of municipal races, and school board races -- but there are also questions on ballots, sometimes one or two from the state, sometimes one or two from your county or town.
While some towns will have a question on the ballot this year, not all will, so if you don't see one for your town, no need to worry.
The below information was gathered collectively from the Ocean County Clerk's Office and Monmouth County Clerk's Office.
Here is a look at all the Election Day 2022 ballot questions you'll see this year depending on your town in Monmouth County and Ocean County.
Ocean County Ballot Questions.
"Should the Township of Barnegat adopt regulations prohibiting the placement of signs on public property and within the public right-of-way within the Township?"
"The Township has been inundated with private signs being placed on public property, resulting in significant cost and expense to the Township to remove. If the referendum question passes, Barnegat Township may amend its Township Code to prohibit signs being placed on public property."
"The Ocean Township Board of Education seeks to increase the tax levy by $840,000 for the purpose of maintaining employment of 8 classroom teachers currently funded by expiring Federal COVID Grant funds. Since the implementation of the 2018 revised state school funding formula, the Ocean Township School District realized a cumulative loss of state funding of $4.7 million to date. Approval of this question will allow for maintenance of current class size guidelines of less than 28 students per class in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. These expenditures are in addition to those required to achieve New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Approval will result in a permanent increase in the district's tax levy."
Monmouth County Ballot Questions.
"Should the Borough of Bradley Beach renovate its Borough-owned real property and currently vacant structure located at 319 LaReine Avenue, Block 41, Lot 1, in order to create a municipal community center, at an estimated cost of $10,000,000?"
"Voting YES means you want the Borough to take the necessary steps to renovate the public property and vacant structure located at 319 LaReine Avenue, Block 41, Lot 1, in order to create a municipal community center, at an estimated cost of $10,000,000.
Voting NO means you do not want the Borough to take the necessary steps to renovate the public property and vacant structure located at 319 LaReine Avenue, Block 41, Lot 1, in order to create a municipal community center, at an estimated cost of $10,000,000."
"Should Freehold Township increase the levy for the existing Freehold Township Open Space, Recreation, Floodplain Protection, and Farmland Historic Preservation Trust Fund, from the annual levy of $.03 per $100.00 of equalized valuation to $.04 per $100.00 of equalized valuation, for any or all of the statutory purposes set forth in N.J.S.A. 40:12-15.7(a)?"
"The Township of Freehold currently maintains an Open Space Trust Fund with a dedicated tax levy of $.03 per $100.00 of equalized valuation. This referendum seeks voter approval for an increase in the dedicated tax levy by one cent to $.04 per $100.00 of equalized valuation. The increase would fund various purposes such as additional acquisitions of open space and improvements to open space and parkland properties."
"Shall the COUNCIL-MANAGER PLAN of the Optional Municipal Charter Law, providing for SEVEN (7) council members to be ELECTED AT LARGE for STAGGERED terms at NON-PARTISAN elections to be held in MAY, with the MAYOR ELECTED DIRECTLY BY THE VOTERS, with run-off elections to be held thereafter if a sufficient number of candidates fail to attain a majority of votes, be adopted by the Borough of Red Bank?"
"The voters of the Borough of Red Bank are asked whether to approve a change to Red Bank's form of government from the Borough form to the Council-Manager form under the Optional Municipal Charter Law, commonly known as the Faulkner Act.
If approved, Red Bank will be governed by a council of seven (7) members, which includes a directly-elected Mayor, who serves as a voting member of the Council. The Council will exercise legislative powers and set municipal policy for Red Bank. The Council shall appoint a Municipal Manager, who will exercise all executive and administrative powers.
The Municipal Manager shall serve at the will of the Council, subject to removal by a simple majority vote. The Mayor will be directly elected by the voters for a term of four (4) years.
The remainder of the Council members will be elected for staggered terms of four (4) years each. In order to initiate staggered terms, four (4) of the council members elected under the new form of government shall serve for only two (2) years, to be determined by lot at the organization meeting of the first Council.
The remaining two (2) Council members and Mayor would serve an initial four (4) year term, with a municipal election held every two (2) years. The council shall be elected at large through non-partisan elections held on the second Tuesday in May.
If a sufficient number of candidates for mayor and/or council fail to attain a majority of votes, a potential runoff election for that office would be held in June.
After the new Council is installed, it may choose to move subsequent non-partisan elections to the day of the general election in November, with potential runoff elections in December.
If the change of government is approved by the voters, the first municipal election will be held on May 9, 2023, and the new Mayor and Council members will be installed on July 1, 2023."
