Neptune emergency crews douse flames coming from a Prospect Place home Tuesday morning between Route 33 and Bayard Place, according to the Neptune Office of Emergency Management.
Fire and heavy smoke filled the one story house around 7:00 am.
Crews arrived shortly after to put out the blaze.
What caused it remains under investigation.
An elderly man inside, who had left the home safely, was hospitalized as a precaution at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
One of the firefighters suffered a minor injury and was treated on the scene.
A large portion of the fire was put out by 7:30 AM and the fire was completely out by 8:20 AM.
The scene and investigation was turned over to the Fire Inspector and Code Enforcement.
"We would like to thank the quick thinking residents in the area who contacted 9-1-1 and tended to the victim while awaiting emergency responders," Neptune OEM said on Facebook.
