Launched with nearly $31 million in military funds, the 86,000-square-foot Regional Training Institute should be complete by February 2016.

Kryn Westhoven, spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, said the facility will allow for the training and housing of hundreds of personnel.

"It features 10 classrooms, a library and a large auditorium," he said. "It's going to provide more capability to train our New Jersey Army and Air National Guardsmen."

The institute is open to soldiers beyond New Jersey, however. Active duty and reserve members from as far as Maine will use the Sea Girt facility for training.

The training will be handled by the 254th Regiment (Combat Arms).
