UPDATE: In all, about 30 vehicles were involved in this crash on Wednesday morning, according to the MCSO. People with injuries were treated on scene and then brought to Monmouth Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Hospital.

“This was a major event due to severe icing conditions that caused slick and dangerous roads which resulted in the pile up,” Sheriff Shaun Golden in a statement following the accident. “Our first responders did an exceptional job responding to the accident and maintaining safety at the scene as they treated and transported seven people to the hospital, with the assistance of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Medical Ambulance Bus.  I particularly commend the MCSO EMS Task Force, the MCSO Office of Emergency Management, multiple EMS agencies and police and fire departments from Eatontown, Tinton Falls, Long Branch and Oakhurst.”

There are several injuries being reported following a multi-vehicle collision in Monmouth County on Wednesday morning related to the slick weather conditions.

As a result of the multi-car accident, with over a dozen vehicles involved, between Routes 18 and 36 from Tinton Falls to Eatontown, the eastbound lanes of Route 18 are closed.

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden tells Townsquare Media News that there are a total of seven injuries, four of which have been deemed non-life threatening injuries so far and they have been brought to Monmouth Medical Center via the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office medical ambulance bus with others being brought in through local EMS ambulances.

Two patients with serious injuries from the crash have been brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

There are multiple EMS units still on the scene with the MCSO EMS Task Force who is triaging patients.

The collision is weather related, Golden said, with ice on the roads.

Drivers are asked to steer clear of the off ramp from Routes 18 to 36 East as the crash is investigated and people are tended to at the scene.

"Stay away from the area, road closure with multiple police units on scene conducting investigations," Golden said.

This is a developing story, article will be updated as new information becomes available.
