Monmouth County has program to help veterans and active military
It is the unofficial start to summer here on Memorial Day weekend but let's not forget why we even have this weekend.

"The one thing that we have to remember is these great beaches, the great freedom that we have, that just doesn't come, it comes because of the people that sacrificed for us and that's our Vets," Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnone said. "It's very important that we don't forget that."
Monmouth County Clerk Christine Hanlon says it's a weekend to remember those who've served and made the ultimate sacrifice.
"We always think about those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and it also makes us think about our veterans, our gold star families and active military members," Hanlon said. "Let's all remember to support our members of the military, our veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice so they we can be free."
There are over 37,000 veterans living in Monmouth County.
Clerk Hanlon adds that her office has a program in place that provides military veterans, active service members and gold star families with a discount card that they can use at participating businesses for a discount or service.
"We encourage all businesses in Monmouth County to offer a special discount or service for our veterans, our military members and gold star families," Hanlon said. "Every veteran that comes into the office to get the card also receives a booklet that shows all of the businesses that support the veterans, military and gold star families discount program."
