Buddhist monks, nuns, and supporters will hitting the roads of Ocean County on foot, walking on foot to Oyster Creek Power Plant in order to raise awareness of community, sustainability, and disarmament.

"Walking for Peace,For the People, For the Earth" is doing their 12th walk, this year starting out in Leverett Massachusetts on February 15th and walking to the nations capital.

The group will arrive in Ocean County on Sunday, March 17th at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Toms River to enjoy a potluck supper before continuing south.

The walk was started by Nipponzan Myohoji of the New England Peace Pagoda and it has been endorsed by Arise for Social Justice-Western Massachusetts Maerican Friends Service Committee, the Massachusetts Peace Action, House of Peace, Nuclear Free future, the Traprock Center for Peace and Justice, and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom USA, among others.

The group will be meeting walkers from the Ocean County area at the Ocean County Library, Toms River Branch on Sunday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m.  They will walk to Oyster Creek Nuclear facility and offer a prayer vigil.  Afterwards they will return to the Unitarian Universalist Church in the Holiday Mall on Route 37 West in Toms River for a potluck supper at 6:00 p.m.  Speakers from Jersey Shore Nuclear Watch and Peace Walk leaders will present a short program about the purpose of the walk.
