K-9 Officer Lynk is a 14-month old German Shepherd who arrived at police headquarters on August 7, 2015.  He and his handler, K-9 Officer Steven Wendruff, will attend a 16-week K-9 Patrol Class beginning on August 10, 2015.  During the training, the pair will learn how to track and locate suspects, evidence, and missing persons, as well as assist in other areas of police operations.  Chief Lisa Parker says they'll be a powerful asset.

"The addition of a second canine team to our department will allow us to better serve and protect our community," Chief Parker said.

Officers Lynk and Wendruff join Manchester's first K-9 team, Officer Storm and handler Patrolman Marc Micciulla, who completed their Patrol Class in June of 2015.  Following the initial training course, the new team will resume regular patrol duties before attending 14 weeks of Narcotics Scent Detection Training with the New Jersey State Police next spring.  Officer Lynk was purchased using money from Manchester's Law Enforcement Trust Fund, which is funded by revenue generated from asset seizure and forfeiture.

The Manchester Police Department would like to thank Lead K-9 Trainer Matthew Nemes of the Ewing Township Police Department and K-9 Trainer Ronald Buchanan of the Lawrence Township Police Department, as well as Whiting Veterinary Services for the donation of examinations and medications.
