Manchester Police issue warning about suspicious car driving around town
Manchester police are investigating the report of a suspicious vehicle possibly posing as an unmarked police car who followed a woman around the township in the Beckerville section on Monday.
The caller told Manchester Police around 5:20 pm that she had pulled over to let the vehicle behind her pass, but the vehicle pulled over again and began to follow her briefly flashing red and blue strobe lights from the grill.
The resident reported that the vehicle followed her vehicle from the area of her residence to State Highway 70 and Manchester Boulevard before she turned onto a main highway and the suspicious vehicle continued heading straight.
Police believe, based on the statement of the resident and the photograph that was taken, the suspicious vehicle appears to be an older model Ford Taurus 4 door brown or dark gray in color with the rear window and all four side windows tinted dark black.
There are two strobe style lights affixed to the front grill that have the ability to flash red and blue and what appears to be a metal shield or badge displayed on the driver side of the front windshield.
The race, sex, and number of occupants of the suspicious car are unknown.
Manchester Police are presently checking with other law enforcement agencies throughout the State to see if they had any officers working investigations in Manchester or have any vehicles in their fleet that fit the above description.
In the meantime, police have tips they want to pass along should you ever encounter a similar situation where you're being pulled over by an unmarked "cop car.":
- If you are being pulled over by an unmarked or questionable police vehicle and you are not sure of its authenticity you can call 9-1-1 and ask them to verify the matter.
- If you are being pulled over by an unmarked car in a dark or desolate area, you should gesture politely with your hand and proceed carefully to a safe, well-lit area.
- If you are approached by an officer from an unmarked car, keep your hands where they can be seen and politely ask the officer for I.D. other than a badge or request that a supervisor be called to the location.
- If you have someone with you that can take a photograph of the vehicle or license plate or you can do it safely it can be helpful.
