A Manalapan man has been arrested and charged for hitting an Asbury Park man who was crossing the street in Old Bridge and then fleeing the scene, announced Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Acting Old Bridge Police Chief Joseph Mandola in a joint statement.

When Old Bridge Police responded to Route 9 and Ferry Road Tuesday morning, around 6:45 am, they found 64-year old Anthony Allen of Asbury Park lying across the center median after being struck by a vehicle the night before.

Allen was later pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The investigation that followed by Old Bridge Police and the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office led to the identification of 21-year old Prince Fitzpatrick, as the driver of the vehicle that allegedly hit Allen and took off.

Fitzpatrick was arrested and charged on Thursday with second-degree leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and third-degree endangering an injured victim.

While an arrest has been made and charges pressed against Fitzpatrick, Prosecutor Ciccone and Chief Mandola said that the investigation is ongoing.

If you have any information on the accident, you're asked to call Old Bridge Police Officer Connolly at 732-721-5600 extension 3821, or Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Detective Colonna at (732) 745-3317.
