Man Manufactured Meth in Jackson; Mortar in Possession
JACKSON — Detectives from the Jackson Township Police Department have been conducting an investigation into the distribution and manufacture of methamphetamine since November 2018.
The investigation concluded on Thursday, August 1st with the arrest of Micheal Canto, 40, of Anita Drive, Jackson.
Officers and detectives stopped Canto's vehicle on West Commodore Blvd and took him into custody. A search of Canto's person revealed methamphetamine in his possession.
The investigation continued with the seizure of Canto's 1998 Suzuki motorcycle and 2002 Ford F150, in which officers found what appeared to be material used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
With the help of the New Jersey State Police Hazmat Unit, a search was conducted of Canto's vehicle, and even more methamphetamine was found. Chemicals and materials to make methamphetamine were also found inside the vehicle.
During the search, a mortar round was recovered from the vehicle but was later discovered to be inactive.
Canto was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and first degree maintaining a facility for the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Canto was processed and lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
CHARGES ARE MERELY ACCUSATIONS. SUSPECTS ARE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
