The Lobster Shanty started out in the 1950s in Point Pleasant Beach as a super simple, family-run seafood spot tied to the local fishing life.

Founder Jack Baker was literally catching seafood by day and serving it to guests at night at a few outdoor tables by his home along the water.

Over time, that small setup grew into a full dockside restaurant known for fresh seafood and riverfront views, becoming a longtime Jersey Shore favorite that’s stuck around through decades of changes.

Is The Lobster Shanty In Point Pleasant Beach Closing?

According to a recent article from NJ.com, the Lobster Shanty will become a new venue called Harbor Point. "The Lobster Shanty & Sunset Ballroom in Point Pleasant Beach is becoming Harbor Point, a space exclusively dedicated to weddings and special events, with an opening planned for this spring."

In addition, “Harbor Point will honor everything that made The Lobster Shanty so special making room for new and improved offerings,” the venue wrote on Facebook.

Events that will continue at the new Harbor Point include:

  • Brunch with Santa
  • New Year’s Eve celebrations
  • Easter gatherings
  • Mother’s Day events

I have been a part of many events over the years (36 years) at the Lobster Shanty and always enjoyed the trips to Point Pleasant Beach and this iconic venue. I look at this change as a facelift, instead of saying goodbye.

NJ.com added a statement, “We are deeply grateful for the years of memories shared at The Lobster Shanty and look forward to welcoming you to Harbor Point, where we’ll continue to celebrate life’s most special occasions together — right here on the water,”
