It's still unclear where all the money is coming from, but courtesy busing in Lakewood will continue through June for some 10,000 public and private school students, according to Township officials.

The announcement was made during Thursday night's Township Committee meeting, before hundreds of parents, according to reports.

The District needs $2.5 million to continue providing the transportation service, but the Asbury Park Press reports the Township's contribution will only be $1 million it committed to in a courtesy busing deal agreed to in August. The Township Committe earlier this week was considering giving double that.

The state-appointed District monitors and state Senator Rober Singer, R-Ocean, reportedly assured Lakewood that its courtesy busing program would continue this year, according to the Asbury Park Press.

So far, a long-term funding solution has not been found and Township officials have said they are concerned about the new school year in September.
