A Jackson Township man reportedly holding people hostage at a home on Laurel Avenue Saturday around 8 pm was shot after allegedly wielding a knife in a "threatening manner".

Travis Van Pelt, 22, was shot at least once by responding Jackson police officers, according to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

Van Pelt was then brought to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The other people inside the home were located.

No other information regarding the shooting or hostage situation has been released yet.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit has taken the lead in the investigation as per the mandates and guidelines of the New Jersey State Attorney General’s Office regarding police involved shootings.

They'll receive investigative assistance from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit and the full cooperation of the Jackson Township Police Department.
