Police in Jackson Township have arrested a man wanted for murder in Philadelphia.

Detectives were conducting surveillance on Saturday along South New Prospect Road near the Prospect Points Apartments after they received information about a suspect who was wanted on a murder charge in Philadelphia and could be in the area.

They found a vehicle in the parking lot that belonged to the suspect who they said they later watched the suspect get into and drive to the Quick Check nearby.

That's when Edwin Martinez, 35, was pulled over and taken into custody without incident.

He was processed and lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending an extradition hearing.

Detectives from the Philadelphia Police Department then arrived at Jackson Police headquarters to continue their investigation which led to a search of the suspect’s vehicle and apartment he had been staying in at the time.

Their search led to the discovery of 5 ounces of heroin, over 5 ounces of cocaine and 5 ounces of marijuana.

Jackson Detectives then signed warrant complaints charging Martinez with 1st degree possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, 1st degree possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and 3rd degree possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

The office of Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw has not returned a message by Townsquare Media News seeking additional information on the murder Martinez is accused of committing in the city.
