The New Jersey Attorney General's Office is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that happened Tuesday night in Ocean County.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation revealed officers with the Manchester Township Police Department responded to Elizabeth Avenue after a 9-1-1 call was received at about 8:30 PM.

There, officials located a subject, and then two officers fired their service weapons at approximately 9:10 PM, fatally wounding that person.

A firearm was recovered near the victim whose identity has not been released.

A law passed in 2019 requires the Attorney General's Office to conduct an investigation when a person is killed by a law enforcement officer. It requires that all such investigations be presented to a grand jury to determine if the evidence supports the return of an indictment against the officer or officers involved.

This investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
