This May, we're celebrating Older Americans Month, and this year’s theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” invites us to rethink everything we thought we knew about growing older. It’s a call to move beyond outdated assumptions and embrace a more inclusive, empowering narrative—one that reflects the real, lived experiences of older adults today. Aging isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey. It’s as varied and vibrant as the people living it, filled with growth, resilience, and continued contribution to our families, neighborhoods, and communities.

Flipping the script means recognizing the incredible diversity within the older population. From lifelong learners and small business owners to caregivers and community leaders, older adults are breaking boundaries every day. They’re redefining what it means to age with purpose, showing that life doesn’t slow down after a certain birthday—it just evolves. Whether that evolution includes second careers, creative pursuits, travel, activism, or simply enjoying more time with loved ones, it deserves to be celebrated and supported.

This month and beyond, let’s challenge ageism in all its forms and create a culture that values older adults not for what they used to be, but for who they are now. When we flip the script on aging, we open the door to a more compassionate, connected, and age-friendly world for everyone.
