New Jersey Grocery Store Making Headlines for Enforcing Decades Old Rule

Back in the day, I worked at Shoprite in Toms River. Shoutout to all grocery store employees because regardless of which department you work in, it's not an easy job.

When I was a cashier, I saw this rule broken every ten minutes, but we were never told to do anything about it. It seems one New Jersey grocer is cracking down in a big way.

Unless you shop early in the morning or late at night, most grocery stores in New Jersey are hectic. And weekends, forget about it.

You're carefully navigating the aisles trying to get all the items you need in as little time as possible.

There are two types of grocery shoppers. Those who make a weekly trip and have a massive haul, and those who pop in a few times a week and pick up only what is necessary.

There are also wise shop-at-home customers. I forgot about them. I guess there are three types of shoppers.

How many times have you been in the grocery store with a basket just picking up a few items and then heading for the express "20 items or less" self-checkout lane find a shopper ahead of you who let's just say doesn't know how to count.

Now, I'm not talking a few items over. Try 10 or more. Most of us keep our comments and anger to ourselves and grin and bear it.

It appears one New Jersey grocery store is cracking down on express lane violators.

My colleague Chris Rollins wrote about her local Shoprite counting and monitoring express lane self-checkout orders and sending those with more than the proper amount of items to a regular line.
