A Brief History Of The Wellmont Theater In Montclair, NJ

If you're not totally familiar with the Wellmont, it's a great place to see a show in beautiful downtown Montclair. The Wellmont was originally constructed in the early 1920's by a gentleman named H.H Wellenbrink, who bought a piece of land at Bloomfield Avenue, where the theater was built. The name Wellmont comes from a combination of Wellenbrink's name as well as the name of the town Montclaire.

Over the years, the theater evolved from a silent theater to a movie theater, to a theater for independent films in the 1980s, and was then converted into the largest concert venue in the area in 2005, able to host 2,500 people. Today, the Wellmont is a must-stop venue for bands touring around Jersey.
