UPDATE: Newark police on Friday, Nov. 3 identified the suspect as Shanita N. Rose, 40, of Newark and has been taken into custody on charges of carjacking, kidnapping, and endangering the welfare of a child. Police did not disclose where Rose was located.

NEWARK — An Amber Alert issued Tuesday morning for a 3-year-old boy inside a stolen car was canceled after he was found in Jersey City but police are looking for help to identify the suspect.

The alert was issued after a silver Hyundai was stolen from the 100 block of Wilson Avenue in Newark at 8:13 a.m., according to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé.

The vehicle was found around 10:30 a.m.

News video shows two officers holding the boy's hands as they walk him to a waiting ambulance. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center to be checked over.

Fragé issued surveillance photos of the suspect in the case Tuesday afternoon and asked for the public's help to identify the individual who may be a female. Anyone with information is asked to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477)
