Jersey Mike’s Week 6 Shore Conference Football Team of the Week: Raritan
Every week this fall, Jersey Mike’s and Shore Sports Network will be teaming up to select the Shore Conference Football Team of the Week based on its performance over the past weekend.
The Jersey Mike’s Team of the Week for Week 6 is Raritan, which won a wild back-and-forth thriller over St. John Vianney to end a two-game losing streak, snap SJV's five-game winning streak, and earn a spot in the latest SSN Football Top 10. Shore Sports Network stopped by practice on Tuesday to present the Rockets and head coach Anthony Petruzzi with a special game ball and a $500 Jersey Mike's gift card.
The Rockets started the season 3-0 but had lost their last two games against No. 3 Point Boro and No. 6 Ocean, respectively, who are both undefeated. Another opportunity against a Top 10 team presented itself during Week 5 when Raritan faced No. 8 St. John Vianney.
Senior running back Kieran Falzon started the scoring with a 44-yard touchdown run and it was the beginning of a huge game for Falzon, who rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries and also returned a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. His 13-yard touchdown run in the latter stages of the fourth quarter gave the Rockets the lead on the seventh and final lead change of the game.
Senior slot back Dan Calicari had another impactful game with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and four receptions for 50 yards while junior quarterback Logan Goldsberry threw a 22-yard pass to senior wide receiver Michael Casiano. Raritan also recorded a safety.
The victory put Raritan at 4-2 and was monumental for the team's playoff standing. The win over a 5-win team along with the multiplier for playing a non-public school vaulted the Rockets to No. 1 in United Power Ranking for the South Jersey Group 2 section. Raritan also jumped back into the latest SSN Top 10 at No. 9.
Raritan will return to action in Week 7 at home vs. Toms River South (1-5).
