There is a sunrise of hope over the horizon in New Jersey thanks in part to an Ocean County based non-profit who helps those statewide battling cancer and their families.

We're in the final days of November and with it the 'Let It Grow' Movember fundraising campaign being held by David's Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation of Manahawkin, and your help is needed to help the non-profit reach its $50,000 goal.

Harvey Cedars Police Chief Robert Burnaford, who is also an advisory panel member with DDBCF, joined us on 'Shore Time with Vin and Dave' on 94.3 The Point and 105.7 The Hawk on Sunday morning, to discuss the ongoing fundraising campaign and how you can help.

"The Foundation is just doing some incredible, incredible things," Chief Burnaford tells Townsquare Media. "To date -- and these numbers always just baffle my mind -- is over 2,400 families have received direct financial aid which equals an overall (amount) of almost $2.4-million and to think of a small grassroots foundation that started on David's (Caldarella) dream when he was the one in that chair that receives that news that you have cancer -- wanted to help to give back, and, really, today, to be able to say that the foundation has done that is really, just fantastic."

"The one thing that I always try and tell people is everyone has a story," Chief Burnaford said. "I, knock on wood, I've never had cancer, but. my mother did, right, so that's my story. In 2016, she got diagnosed with colorectal cancer and passed away in 2018. What the foundation does -- it doesn't just give financial aid to people who need it, but, also gives different support and wellness aid also, whether it's thru acupuncture visits or massage, because, yes, money is key, whether you need help paying bills or transportation or groceries -- family members are impacted too."

This is a foundation like many, many others where even the perceived smallest amount of a monetary donation is extremely helpful and beneficial to the non-profit and, in turn, so many individuals as well.

"The one thing that I always like is the 'Planned Giving' where anybody, and I do it, whether you want to contribute a dollar, five dollars, ten dollars, twenty dollars -- whatever you can afford on a monthly basis, that you sign up, and it's just a reoccurring withdraw, it's just to help the foundation, so that it's a constant stream of financial support," Chief Burnaford said. "You don't have to contribute a large dollar amount -- every little bit helps."
