Here are the weekly Jersey Shore Covid-19 coronavirus case totals
As the curve keeps on flattening and less and less people are being reported infected or hospitalized our Townsquare Media Jersey Shore News Team will post a weekly report of the cases coming out of Monmouth and Ocean County's instead of a daily report.
In Monmouth County there have been 6,781 positive cases as of Saturday morning May 9 with Freehold Township having the most followed by Howell and Middletown, as reported by Monmouth County Freeholders Tom Arnone and Sue Kiley.
Here is how the daily cases break down for Monmouth County this week:
- Saturday May 2: 70 new cases reported bringing total to 6,266.
- Sunday May 3: 110 new cases reported bringing total to 6,376.
- Monday May 4: 58 new cases reported brining total to 6,434.
- Tuesday May 5: 87 new cases reported bringing total to 6,521.
- Wednesday May 6: 37 new cases reported bringing total to 6,558.
- Thursday May 7: 104 new cases reported bringing total to 6,662.
- Friday May 8: 119 new cases reported bringing total to 6,781.
- Cases this week: 585.
In Ocean County there have been 7,275 positive cases as of Saturday morning May 9 with Lakewood having the most followed by Toms River and Brick, as reported by the Ocean County Health Department.
Here is how the daily cases break down for Ocean County this week:
- Saturday May 2: 142 new cases reported bringing total to 6,689.
- Sunday May 3: 148 new cases reported bringing total to 6,837.
- Monday May 4: 129 new cases reported bringing total to 6,966.
- Tuesday May 5: 84 new cases reported bringing total to 7,050.
- Wednesday May 6: 46 new cases reported bringing total to 7,115.
- Thursday May 7: 77 new cases reported bringing total to 7,192.
- Friday May 8: 83 new cases reported bringing total to 7,275.
- Cases this week: 709.
Here are some of the Jersey Shore Covid-19 stories that made News this week:
- Ocean County will continue to offer residents testing for the coronavirus at the drive thru testing site at Ocean County College during the week of May 11 but with less hours for testing which will still be done by appointment on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. The new hours will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on those days. All other requirements remain the same.
- This week several Ocean County towns announced that beaches are opening including Point Pleasant Beach (May 15 & July 4) Lavallette, Seaside Park, Toms River (Ortley Beach) and even Brick who has taken the announcement a step further as Mayor John Ducey announced Friday that swimming will be allowed at Brick Beach 1 and Windward Beach Park on Memorial Day weekend. All other beaches in Brick will open on June 15.
- The 99 parishes across the catholic Diocese of Trenton (Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean) are opening up their doors to the 730,000 community of believers for private prayer ONLY beginning on May 13 (the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima) and in accordance with public health guidelines, Bishop David O'Connell announced on Friday.
- Police Departments across Ocean County are developing safety plans to reopen beaches and boardwalks and awaiting guidance from the state on which regulations will be in play this summer so they can determine what will further be required of them.
- Ocean County 10th District State Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano introduced a resolution calling on Governor Phil Murphy to immediately re-open businesses, following CDC guidelines, so the New Jersey economy can get a reboot.
- Ocean County Freeholder Director Joe Vicari says some county residents have been receiving federal COVID-19 stimulus checks in the mail that are made out to dead relatives.
- The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management is reporting a rise in the amount of 911 medical calls being made during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office Emergency Operations Center, Ocean Township Police and Lacey Township Police are among those seeing a spike in calls.
- Summer in Ocean County won't be like it has been in years past due to the pandemic and it's already having an impact on people whose busy working season occurs between Memorial Day and Labor Day, including Lifeguards.
- There are nine New Jersey counties who received federal stimulus funding from the CARES Act including Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
