With Thanksgiving only a week and change away and Black Friday right on its heels, the holiday shopping season is ramping up. But some major chains are pushing back against recent trends.

It's interesting to look at the "Black Friday Creep" that's been happening the last few years.

First, many stores were opening in the wee hours of Friday morning. Then, some started to open at midnight going into Friday. That became late Thanksgiving Day openings. And finally, a number of major retailers decided to be open for business altogether on Thanksgiving Day.

But there are a number of retailers who are pushing back by staying closed on Thanksgiving so their employees can spend the whole day with their families.

Here's a list of some retailers with stores in New Jersey who will not be open on Thanksgiving Day:

  • Costco
  • T.J. Maxx
  • Nordstrom
  • Barnes & Noble
  • Sam's Club
  • Crate & Barrel
  • Burlington Coat Factory
  • Marshall's
  • DSW
  • The Home Depot
  • Staples
  • Lowe's
  • PetCo
  • Game Stop
  • Pier 1 Imports

So, what do you think? Should stores stay closed on Thanksgiving Day, or is it fair game to get the sales rolling sooner? Comment below and let us know your opinion!
