If I'm being totally honest, I wasn't a great student in high school. I now know that dyslexia made it difficult for me to read books, which usually resulted in me trying to fudge book reports. But one author made me sit down, take my time, and digest a whole novel - Kurt Vonnegut. Slaughterhouse Five was the first book that I can really say influenced me.

Even through my difficulty with reading, I couldn't get enough of Vonnegut's easy, witty, and almost dismissive at times tone. It inspired me to grab every Vonnegut book I could find. Classics like Breakfast of Champions, Player Piano, and one of my favorites, Mother Night.

I was surprised to discover that no filmmaker had ever put together a comprehensive look at Vonnegut's life and influence. I came across a Kickstarter project, by Emmy winning "Curb Your Enthusiasm" director Robert Weide, to complete a Vonnegut documentary. A labor of love that has literally been 30 years in the making.

The cool thing about this project is that fact that we can all be a part of it. And, surprisingly, you don't have to mortgage your home to be a part of a Hollywood production, pledges start at only $5.00.

I've already donated, and am hopeful that the project reaches the goal of $250,000 in the next two weeks. If you'd like to learn more and possibly donate, check out the video below and click here for the Kickstarter project page.
