We have likely all noticed that gas prices have been on the rise fairly sharply over the last few weeks and at this rate it won’t be long before we are above $3 a gallon.

The average cost in New Jersey as of Friday was $2.93 for a gallon for regular gas which is up about 50 cents over the past couple of months but is only a couple of cents higher than it was at this time a year ago.

Gas prices traditionally rise during the spring months and of course we notice it more since the state gas tax was increased by 23 cents a gallon in 2016. Up until then we were near the top when it came to the lowest fuel costs in the nation but that is no longer the case and New Jersey is close to the national average.

For what it’s worth Alabama pays the least per gallon at $2.51 for regular and California pays the most at an average of $4.00 as of last Friday.

The Toms River North Boys lacrosse team will host Toms River South tonight and it’s always special when these two rivals meet in any sport. It’s “Senior Night” for the Mariners Lax Bros so that takes things up a notch but the game is even more special because it’s their first of what they expect will be annual community fundraising nights.

Tonight’s game will benefit the Toms River Field of Dreams with spectators asked to donate $2.00 to the cause and there will be also be a 50/50 will all proceeds going to the project.

For those that don’t know work has begun on the site at Bey Lea Park to build a multi-use facility for children with special needs that will include a baseball field, basketball court, playground, miniature golf course and much more. It’s basically a very short walk from the Toms River North campus and the brainchild of teacher Christian Kane and his wife Mary to help those like their son Gavin and others who face challenges and just want a place where they can enjoy what other kids do on a regular basis.
