The possible presence of metal shavings prompts ShopRite of Manchester to voluntarily recalling all store-produced ground meat packaged and sold on Friday, October 3.

According to parent company Wakefern Foods in Keasbey, only meats ground and packaged on that day with sell-by dates of October 3 are involved in the recall. The company cites a problem in the grinding process.

“We are advising customers who purchased any of these products at the ShopRite of Manchester to return them for an immediate refund or replacement,” said ShopRite spokesperson Karen Meleta in a prepared release.

“Although this may not cause an immediate health risk if ingested, we wanted to alert the public so appropriate steps can be taken.”  No injuries related to the recall have been reported.

The Manchester store is the only one involved in the recall, and pre-packaged ground meat is not part of it, the company said. Customers should check labels and return products in question for refunds or replacements.

ShopRite Price Plus customers with current accounts are being notified by phone and e-mail. More information can be found at the company's web page or 1-800-SHOPRITE (1-800-746-7748).
