For anyone who grew up in New Jersey, especially here in Ocean and Monmouth counties, a trip to Great Adventure wasn't just another day out, it was a tradition.

Long before smartphones and social media, summer memories were made on roller coasters, in long lines for rides, and during family road trips to what many of us still refuse to call anything other than Great Adventure.

Why Great Adventure Will Always Be Great Adventure

Sure, the official name is now Six Flags Great Adventure, but ask most lifelong New Jersey residents and they'll tell you the same thing: it'll always be Great Adventure. Whenever I write about Six Flags, I hear from listeners who quickly remind me of that fact. The name may have changed over the years, but the memories haven't.

This 1980s Commercial Brings Back Instant Nostalgia

Watching this classic 1980s commercial brought all of those memories rushing back. It's amazing how a simple television ad can instantly transport you to another time. Maybe you remember piling into the family station wagon with your parents. Maybe it was your grandparents who treated you to a special summer day at the park. And for many parents today, this commercial might remind them of taking their own kids to experience the same excitement.

OH, THE MEMORIES! That's what makes this old commercial so much fun to watch. It captures a time when a day at Great Adventure felt like the biggest event of the summer.

Several rides I'll always remember but are no longer there. Do you remember the bobsled? I loved it. It was called Sarajevo Bobsled, I wish it was still there. What was your favorite Great Adventure ride growing up?

The Classic Rides We Still Miss Today

More Great Adventure Memories We Still Talk About

  • The Sarajevo Bobsled
  • Rolling Thunder

Even today, it's still a great day whenever we head to Six Flags Great Adventure. The rides may change, but the memories keep bringing us back generation after generation.
