If your electric bill seems a lot higher these days, you're definitely not imagining it. Across New Jersey, higher electricity costs, growing demand, and more expensive upgrades to the power grid are all pushing bills up. Put it all together, and it's easy to see why so many Garden State residents are paying more each month just to keep the lights on.

According to Patch, these are the three laws Governor Sherrill signed into law that she feels will help with energy costs for residents here in New Jersey.

S1673/A2757 – “Will eliminate unnecessary utility incentives that increase electricity costs”

S4411/A5188 – “Will strengthen state oversight of utility infrastructure investments to prevent wasteful spending and encourage smarter grid upgrades”

S731/A796 – “Will ensure large data centers pay their fair share for energy instead of shifting costs onto New Jersey families and small businesses”

Everyone, I would think, has seen their electric bills go up in the last year or so. According to Patch, "Sherrill claimed her administration has taken actions that will save New Jersey ratepayers more than $1 billion annually since taking the reins from former governor Phil Murphy in January. Some of those moves have included freezing rate hikes, lifting a four-decade ban on building nuclear power plants, and pursuing more clean energy such as solar and battery storage."

State Republicans have other ideas as lawmakers in Trenton look to come up with an answer to help lower energy prices around the Garden State.
