In case you are not aware there is a big difference between today and tomorrow and I’m not just talking about today is Monday and tomorrow is Tuesday.  Today is the last day of February which while the shortest month of the year on the calendar often feels like the longest and this year was no different.  Not surprisingly we had our biggest snowstorm of the season during the month and certainly had our share of cold weather with a couple of nice days sprinkled in.

One of the more noticeable changes has been the length of the day.  When we started this month sunrise was 7:06 and sunset was 5:16…a total of 10 hours and 10 minutes of daylight.  When you wake up tomorrow the sun will be up at 6:31 and it won’t set until 5:49….that’s 11 hours and 18 minutes which is more than an hour longer then it was on the first of February.  By the way we pick up over an hour more before the month of March comes to an end.

So today is our swan song to February and as the saying goes “good riddance to bad rubbish” or simply “it can't end soon enough.”  The month may have started with my birthday and included Valentine’s Day but I have no love for it.

March features St. Patrick’s Day Parades in Belmar on Sunday, March 6th and Seaside Heights on Saturday, March 12th…a year after both were cancelled because of COVID.  Daylight savings time is on the 13th, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament begins three days later and by the end of the month it’s opening day of the Major League Baseball Season. (Well most of those things will happen as scheduled).

While I’m thinking positive thoughts…it’s only 88 days until Memorial Day Weekend.
