Now that the holiday season has come and gone, the next best time of the year is here.

It's Girl Scout cookie season!

As the resident Girl Scout here, I feel qualified to argue with the internet as they complain about the cost of Girl Scout cookies.

Before we get into my mic drop moment, let me explain my credentials real quick.

I was a girl member of Girl Scouts from kindergarten until I graduated high school. During that time, I sold cookies every year except for my first year. At that time, girls didn't sell cookies as Daisies.

In my last year in Girl Scouts, I sold 1,814 boxes. By today's standards that isn't that crazy, but back in 2009 it was.

Through cookie sales, nut and chocolate sales, and other fundraisers I was able to go to 35 states, 4 Canadian Provinces, and 2 Australian Territories.

My parents didn't lay out a dime for my trips, I earned every dollar.

When I graduated high school I became a lifetime member, so I will be a Girl Scout for the rest of my life.

When you buy a box of cookies, you are not just buying a box of cookies.

During cookie sales, I learned so much about business, finances, goal setting, and responsibility.

This is what you are investing in.

You are investing in young girls learning skills that will help them succeed in whatever they decide to do as adults.

You are investing in young girls to have experiences that they may otherwise not have.

You are investing in young girls' future.

Because of my cookie selling, I did a few radio and TV appearances for my local council. Those appearances made me decide to go to school for broadcasting.

One of those appearances got me my first job in radio.

Without selling Girl Scout cookies I wouldn't be writing to you right now, nor would I be talking with you every afternoon.

How much do Girl Scout Cookies cost?

Depending on your council, prices may vary.

For the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore cookies range from $6 a box to $7 a box for gluten-free.

When I started selling cookies in 1998, cookies were $3 a box.

I checked the inflation calculator from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and $3 in January 1998 has the same buying power as $5.86 in November 2024 (the latest date I can compare it to on the calculator).

Girl Scouts aren't price gouging you, they're just accounting for inflation.

How much a box of Girl Scout cookies costs throughout the years

February is the time of year we see Girl Scouts out hustling hard to sell their scrumptious cookies. We all know that the price of a box has gone up, but do you know how much the price has increased? Thanks to finance.yahoo.com, we now know.
