Kingda Ka stood high above everything else in the park and New Jersey. It was impossible to miss. Whether you loved roller coasters or hated them, seeing that massive structure from the highway instantly meant you were getting close to Great Adventure.

Now the skyline looks a little emptier. It has now for a while.

But that’s about to change in a very big way.

Six Flags representatives have confirmed a brand-new roller coaster project is under construction, currently being referred to as “Project Purple,” and early details already have thrill seekers talking. According to park officials, the ride is expected to rank among the tallest roller coasters in America once it opens, thanks to nj.com.

The New Ride Sounds Absolutely Wild

While the park has not announced an official name yet, they have shared a few details about what riders can expect.

The coaster will reportedly launch riders from a complete stop into a rapid upward climb, reaching speeds somewhere between 50 and 80 miles per hour. Fans of Kingda Ka will likely recognize that same intense feeling of being blasted forward and skyward within seconds.

Even though this coaster will be its own completely different attraction, park officials say visitors will notice similarities to the experience Kingda Ka delivered for years.

That alone is enough to get coaster fans excited.

Great Adventure Is Going Big Again

Replacing such an iconic ride was never going to be easy.

Kingda Ka became one of the most recognizable parts of the park, and many people wondered if anything could ever recreate that same sense of scale and excitement.

“Project Purple” may do exactly that.

Just the idea of another enormous coaster climbing high above the park is already creating buzz among longtime fans. And if it truly lands among the tallest coasters in the country, it instantly becomes one of the biggest attractions in New Jersey.

There’s Already Plenty Happening This Season

Even with the new coaster still under construction, there’s already a lot happening this year at Six Flags Great Adventure.

The park recently unveiled its new boardwalk-themed section, bringing fresh rides, new energy, and more attractions for families and thrill seekers heading to the park this summer.

Right now the park is operating on weekends, but daily operations begin next week as the summer season officially kicks into high gear.

Fans Are Already Looking Ahead

The coaster may not open until next season, but excitement is clearly building already.

There are still many unanswered questions, including the final height, the official ride name, and when riders will finally get on board for the first time. Still, hearing that the coaster could become one of the five tallest in America is more than enough to grab attention.
