"Free Toll Friday" Happens Today In New Jersey

Today (Friday, May 23rd), drivers will begin their trek to begin celebrating their long holiday weekend for Memorial Day and the "unofficial" start of summer at the Jersey Shore. The Friday before Memorial Day (and after) are ty[ically the busiest travel days of the holiday weekend. So, needless to say, New Jersey will see lots of traffic over the next couple of days.

If you are going to be traveling this weekend, you can catch a break today (Friday, May 23rd) in South Jersey on a bustling New Jersey toll road. According to an app.com report, "Looking to save a little money this holiday weekend? All you have to do is take a ride to the Shore. All drivers who pass through the eastbound Egg Harbor exit on the Atlantic City Expressway will get a free pass. The tolls will be paid for by Chickie’s & Pete’s and the South Jersey Transportation Authority."

 

 

 

According to app.com, "The Philly-based franchise that has restaurants in South Jersey, will pay for tolls at the Eastbound Egg Harbor, New Jersey Toll Plaza Exit on May 23 from 4 to 5 p.m. It’s one of the busiest hours of the year for the tollbooth."

 

 

Every little bit helps, and saving money on tolls can always help make that drive just a little bit easier. So if you are in South Jersey today traveling, you get a break this afternoon (Friday, May 23rd), between 4 and 5 pm.

 

 

Remember to drive safely this holiday weekend and have patience as millions hit the roadways to enjoy the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.
