If you want a break from the expensiveness of the holiday season, I've got a suggestion.  You and your family can go to Cattus Island County Park for the annual Winter Solstice Celebration.  It's free to attend the event which is happening Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 10 am to 3 pm.

This is a day to enjoy nature inside and out. You can take a candy cane nature walk; participate in a live animal talk;   listen to a story by the camp fire; play a fun game;  and make a seasonal craft!   You can even ride in a horse drawn carriage and have a chat with Santa!  (But be aware the lines can be long for the carriage rides and time with Santa so you're encouraged to get there early.)

Organizers also suggest you dress for the weather, and bring an umbrella if it rains.  And if you plan on making crafts, they suggest you bring a bag to carry your items.

Food will be available for purchase but there's no cost to attend the Solstice Celebration.  No reservations are necessary so you can just show up and have a great time!
