Jackson Police ran the initial investigation and learned that Michael Mahan, 38, followed a woman to her home on Maria Street May 8 and he preceded to hold a knife to her neck, threatened to kill her and then actually "slash her face."

A neighbor then intervened and called 9-1-1 with Mahan then taking off from the scene.

Jackson Police found him speeding on Toms River Road, then striking not one but two vehicles in seperate parts of West Veterans Highway, the second of which he hit so hard it went off road.

His speeding lasted another 500 feet before his car became disabled and police were there to place him in handcuffs.

The woman he attacked was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries and two people inside cars he hit were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Jackson Police found out that Mahan had approached a woman/homeowner earlier that day brandishing a knife.

Mahan took off when the woman's husband and dog confronted him.

He is in jail now, facing charges for Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault, Eluding, Aggravated Assault, two counts of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Terroristic Threats, four counts of Assault by Automobile, two counts of Assault by Automobile and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Prosecutor Billhimer said that Assistant Prosecutor Victoria Veni is handling the case on behalf of the State.
