Ever Been To Jersey’s Grounds For Sculpture?
I keep a list of places I'd like to go. "Grounds For Sculpture" has been on that list for a number of years. Well, I'm happy to say that I finally got there and found it to be a really worthwhile trip.
It's in Hamilton, NJ, just about an hour from Toms River. How to describe the place? A giant area where you can walk around and enjoy interesting sculptures. Many are abstract. They're made of different materials; wood, steel, marble, etc. Some of my favorites were the sculptures of people in various "everyday" positions. There was a older man fishing by the water, a child reading a book, a couple enjoying a romantic moment.
Most of the artwork can be touched, so that explains why all the kids I saw seemed to be having a good time. They were interacting with the pieces in a way that seemed to be fun for everyone. I had a bit of fun at one of the indoor galleries. Here I am photobombing a sculpture of Mona Lisa.
The cafe offered a nice assortment of snacks and beverages and there's even a fine dining establishment on the grounds.
