Toms River Police said officers responded around 5:15 pm to the intersection at Cox Crow Road.

Police learned from a witness that 47-year old William Zucosky failed to maintain his lane as he drove north up Route 9 for several miles.

The witness also informed police dispatch that the driver had left the road and struck a utility pole which split in half as a result.

Eventually, the pole, suspended where it was by the wires, required repairs by JCP&L which is why the road was closed for several hours last night.

Zucosky, who was uninjured in the crash, was placed under arrest and given citations for Careless Driving, Reckless Driving, Failure to Stay in Marked Lanes, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol.

His vehicle was impounded in accordance with John's Law.
