Donating the Gift of Life

The summer months in general are often when blood centers around the country run short on all blood types and that’s especially true at the Jersey Shore as so many visitors flock to the area.

People are outside and active and suffering more injuries which increases the need and there are less blood drives with schools off for summer break which often accounts for a good portion of the general blood supply.

With summer just around the corner Community Medical Center in Toms River is asking for the public’s support at their blood drive on Wednesday which is an important one heading into the busy months ahead.

Your blood donation can save up to three lives so by donating blood or platelets you can help make someone’s summer dreams a reality.  The blood drive takes place in auditorium “A” in the main level at CMC from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and there will be door prizes, cafeteria vouchers and more plus free parking for those who are donating.

Appointments are encouraged and can be made by visiting rwjuhdonorclub.org or you can call Laurie Diskin at 732-557-8140.  Donors are reminded to eat and drink before their scheduled time and to bring a photo ID with them.

After capturing their first sectional baseball title since 2006 on Friday its back to the field for Point Boro today as the Panthers face West Deptford in the Group 2 semifinals with the game to be played at Toms River North.

A victory would send Boro to the Group 2 championship game this weekend in Hamilton Township.  Also playing this afternoon in group semifinals are Wall and Manalapan.

The Donovan Catholic softball team has grabbed the top seed in the Tournament of Champions but before that must face rival St. John Vianney again tonight in the championship game of the Shore Conference Tournament at Count Basie Park.  The Griffins outlasted the Lancers in 10 innings on Friday and then the next night captured their first-ever state title.
