Just today, a New Jersey publication came out with a list of over 500 townships in New Jersey, and ranked them for family friendliness. Taking a look at their list, though, there doesn't seem to be much love for the Shore.

"New Jersey Family Magazine", whose tagline is "The essential source for NJ moms" took 511 townships in the Garden State and ranked their "Best Towns For Families".

So, how did Ocean County do?

Not so great, it would appear.

The first entry for Ocean County is Point Pleasant Beach at #165.

Skimming the list, it's top loaded with an awful lot of Hunterdon, Bergen, Somerset, and Essex County communities which, while lovely for families I'm sure, are also way out of the price range for many middle class families that make the Shore their home.

When you navigate to New Jersey Family's "About Us" page, they do state that they focus on 9 central and north Jersey counties. When taking that fact into account, their rankings start to make a bit more sense to us here at the Shore.

As for other major Ocean County towns - Lavallette is the next highest, right in the middle at #249.

Toms River checked in at #381.

Brick, a past safest town in America, is way at the bottom, at #416.

Even picturesque Little Egg Harbor doesn't crack the top 400, at #405.

But in a sign that it could always be worse for us here in Ocean County - the very last entry on the list? According to their rankings, Asbury Park pulls up the rear, at #511.
