It wasn't the Great White Mary Lee that has been been frequenting the Jersey Shore, but crowds marveled at a dead, 6-foot shark that washed up on the Eighth Avenue Beach in Belmar Wednesday afternoon, according to Borough Police.

The shark was discovered around 3 p.m.. It apparently had been spotted swimming close to the shore earlier in the week and appeared to have a mouth injury, according to several media reports.

Photos circulating on social media show some curious beach-goers touching the shark's fin and poking its body.

The shark was hauled away.
