Several hundred Jersey Central Power and Light customers in Neptune Township and Borough were left without electricity after a crash involving a utility pole sent power lines cascading to the street this morning.

The crash reportedly took place on Corlies Avenue at Brighton Avenue at around 11:35 AM. Sources said a truck wound up on its side.Early reports did not indicate the extent of any injuries

JCP&L reported 779 subscribers in the dark, including a handful in Freehold Township, and anticipated full restoration by 1:30 PM.

By 1:45, the company's outage map showed 50 customers in Neptune City without power, another 97 in Eatontown, and five or less in Colts Neck, Howell, Keansburg, Neptune Township, Freehold, Ocean Township and Middletown. The number shrank to 55 by 3 PM.

There was no direct correlation to the crash for the subsequent outages. Restoration to those areas continued into midafternoon.

The intersection was closed during investigations and repairs.
