If you recently picked up a box of mini beignets at Costco in New Jersey, you’ll want to take a closer look, especially if anyone in your home has a tree nut allergy.

Costco is alerting members that Item #1181272 Mini Beignets labeled as Caramel-filled may have been accidentally packed with Chocolate Hazelnut-filled pastries instead, thanks to wcnc.com.

What New Jersey Shoppers Need to Know

The packaging does not list hazelnuts, which creates a serious risk for anyone allergic to this tree nut.

For people with a hazelnut (also known as filbert) allergy, even a small amount can cause a severe and potentially life-threatening reaction.

What happened?

During packaging, some hazelnut-filled beignets were mistakenly placed into boxes labeled as caramel-filled. Because the label does not mention tree nuts, customers would have no way of knowing the product contains hazelnut.

The affected beignets were sold at Costco warehouses in New Jersey between January 16, 2026 and January 30, 2026.

What you should do?

If you bought these mini beignets during that time:

  • Do not eat them if you or someone in your household has a hazelnut allergy

  • Throw them away safely, or

  • Bring them back to Costco for a full refund

Even if the product has been sitting in your fridge or freezer, it’s important to check.

Why this is serious?

Food labels are critical for people managing allergies. When an ingredient like hazelnut is not disclosed, it removes the ability for shoppers to make safe decisions. Someone expecting a caramel pastry could unknowingly consume a tree nut.
