Christie: Seaside Fire is 95 Percent Contained [VIDEO]
A quick-moving blaze that damaged four blocks of the Seaside boardwalk is 95 percent contained, according to Governor Chris Christie. Fire crews could be on scene for days to address "hot pockets."
As of late Friday morning, nearly 100 firefighters were still working on the smoldering remnants of the fire, which started Thursday afternoon in the area of Kohr's Frozen Custard at the south end of the boards. It spread from Stockton Avenue north to Lincoln Avenue, reducing some structures to piles of debris.
Investigators should be on the scene for days as well, according to Christie, and their pace will decide when property owners can return to the scene to assess the damage. Christie said it is too soon to know what caused the fire.
As he did following Superstorm Sandy, Christie promised to rebuild the iconic boardwalk.
"I will not permit all the work we've done over the last 10 months to be diminished or destroyed by what happened last night," he said.
