Charges filed against Jackson man in Toms River teen case

TOMS RIVER - The Jackson 19-year-old who surfaced in Ohio with an under-age Toms River teen, a week after she disappeared from home, now faces charges filed by authorities in Ohio after being stopped for speeding there on October 17.

Jeffrey Trautmann is charged with interference with custody of a child under age 18, possession of marijuana, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, in addiction to the road violation, according to information issued by Toms River police through the Ohio State Highway Patrol public affairs unit.

The search for Antonella Marino began October 13, after she had left home. Toms River police had reason to believe that she was in Trautmann's company, though he was not under suspicion of wrongdoing at the time. Police issued information about him in anticipation of his cooperation in her return.

Ohio authorities said that Trautmann's 2000 Volkswagen was stopped in Richland, Defiance County, on October 17 at 6:14 pm, where police said he was clocked doing 76 miles per hour in a 65 zone.

The trooper who conducted the stop learned that information about the car, and about Antonella Marino, existed in the National Crime Information Center database, under the classification of a missing juvenile.

Trautmann is being held on bail in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, with a court appearance scheduled. Law enforcement in both states are trying to determine if any other charges apply.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
