Car Slams Middletown Staples

A car that careened off Route 35 in Middletown just moments ago crashed through the facade of Staples, a short distance south of the Holmdel border.

The store is just north of Overton Way, off the northbound lanes.

The driver is said to have suffered minor injuries, according to the Asbury Park Press. An eyewitness inside the store reported no injuries to store patrons but described the car as appearing "like an accordion."

The patron, who said he was in the checkout line at the time, relayed that the car ground to a stop just short of the copy area, several yards from the entranceway.

Sources tell us that special services and an air unit were called for extrication if needed.
